Harley-Davidson In Tsunami Debris
A few days ago, I wrote a post about the Harley-Davidson that washed up on the beach in the box off of a cargo truck. The Harley had been at sea for 14 months, as it had washed away in the Tsunami caused by the earthquakes in Japan last year. It washed up on a beach on Graham Island, in Haida Gwaii, BC. Here is a map of Haida Gwaii for those that dont’t know where that is.
The bike has been sent to Steve Drane Harley-Davidson, and they are getting it ready for shipment back to it’s owner in Japan. From what I have read, the bike is going to be repaired or restored by Harley-Davidson in Japan, and the dealer that sold the bike originally for the owner of the bike, Ikuo Yokoyama. Ikuo lost three members of his family in the March 11, 2011, tsunami, and is now living in temporary housing.

Update – 19/05/2012
Peter Mark has written a letter that has been published on the CBCNEWS “Your Community Blog” titled “Your take: A Harley Davidson lost in the tsunami changed my life”. The letter is Mark’s account of finding the Harley-Davidson, and he tells of his feelings towards the people of Japan who have lost almost everything.

I would say Harley could “donate” a new bike to the guy… does not look like much is left after the time in salt water. I think the good will would be priceless!
