The New Ducati 2012 1199 Panigale “Superquadro”
Ducati has introduced their latest superbike engine named the “Superquadro”. This new engine could be the world’s most advanced V-Twin ever. The new “Superquadro” engine is used in Ducati’s new 1199 Panigale. The design for this engine was first sketched way back in 2008, the same year that the 1098R was released. Carlos Checa won this year’s World Superbike Title on a Ducati 1098R.

The engine has an oversquare bore and stroke ratio at 1.84:1 with a bore of 112mm and a stroke of 60.8mm. This allows the engine to make huge power at 195 hp and 98 ft-lbs or torque at the crank. The rev limiter is set at 11,500 rpm, a wild number for a V-Twin design. This power rating, if correct makes the 1199 the most powerful production V-Twin ever made, and places it on par with the four cylinder power plants from Germany and Japan.
Motorcycle.com has a very in-depth report on the “Superquadro” motor on their site, as well as other great articles including a preview of the 2012 Ducati 1199 Panigale
